We were lucky enough to speak with Jackie Oldiges, Director of Marketing of Lexington Relocation Services, in this entry of our Wire Interview series. Lexington Relocation Services has provided executive housing in Lexington, KY, since 1997. In this interview, Ms. Oldiges speaks about the benefits of offering corporate units from one’s own inventory, and the pressure to increase price rates in the past two years.
Can you give a brief description of what your company does and why it is unique in the marketplace?
Lexington Relocation Services provides affordable, fully furnished apartments in Lexington, KY, and surrounding cities. Having been locally owned and operated for over 15 years, we are the only local corporate housing provider in the city. One aspect that makes our business truly unique is that we guarantee availability, even on stays shorter than one month. We also allow guests to stay with us on a nightly basis, as our minimum stay is only two nights.
What challenges do furnished rental businesses face?
It seems that more and more apartment communities are providing their own furnished units. Many properties seem to offer a handful of corporate units they rent separately from their leasing inventory. Furniture vendors encourage this as it eliminates the “middleman” — the corporate housing company. We overcome this challenge by educating our guests about the benefits and specialty of our services.
Additionally, apartment rents have dramatically increased in the past two years, which causes upward pricing pressure on the rates that we charge our guests. This is important, especially in the “cost-conscious” world we compete in.
How cost-conscious are your clients?
Our guests are all cost-conscious, to a degree. Regardless of their price point, most guests are searching for value in their furnished apartment. As our luxury apartments are twice as spacious, more private, and feature more amenities than most area hotels, our guests experience greater value in our apartments than any other lodging option.
What is the optimal experience you want your clients to have?
We want and strive for our guests to have the most comfortable stay possible. We want them to truly feel like our apartment is their home during their stay. We want to ease any burden or stress involved in searching for a temporary residence, and we continue to do that with just one phone call.
Any future plans or developments for the business?
Lexington Relocation is actively expanding into other areas. We also hope to feature an updated website within the next six months. Our guest services department has recently grown so that we can devote optimal attention to our guests’ needs and satisfaction.
What do you like to call your short-term renters/corporate housing clients?
They’re our guests, of course, who are treated with the same respect and hospitality that guests in our own homes would experience. We believe in creating guest relationships that last a lifetime!
